بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Allah ﷻ said : “And [recall] when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, “Strike with your staff the stone.” And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. “Eat and drink from the provision of Allah, and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption””
[Surah al Baqarah/ verse 60].

He who made springs of water gush forth from the stone is obviously able to provide the Banu Isra’il (sons of Israel) with water without any causes. But Allah is teaching us the rule He established to the functioning of the universe: we must always seek and accomplish causes in the hope to get what we need.

He also teaches us through this verse to not elaborate rules on simple appearances because the one who gives judgment on what he sees, his judgment is rarely right.

The stick of Musa (‘alayhi salam) symbolizes the Alif at Tawheed. And the Alif of the Ism al Jalala (the Name of Majesty: Allah) is the secret of the Union of what is united (jam’ul jam). The Alif flows in all letters, and the person who has realized Ikhlass (sincerity) will see all those letters as Alif and nothing else.

For the people of the deep spiritual fulfillment (ahlu tahqiq), the Alif is not a letter and all the letters are only different manifestations of the Alif. so it flows in all the letters in the same way the number one flows in all numbers.

So Mussa (‘alayhi salam) struck the heart with the Alif at tawheed on the stone which symbolizes the letter Ha’, and then gushed forth from it the twelve letters of tahweed: la ilaha illa Allah, each letter symbolizing one of Allah’s springs. Then each one knew where he had to drink. Some people drank from the Essence spring (‘ayn ud dhat), others drank from the Attributes spring (‘ayn us Sifat), others quenched in the Wasl, others in the Fasl, some of them drank from tawkeed, others drank from takhfeef, some of them from fana’ and others drank from Baqa’.

All this in accordance with what have been written on the Preserved Tablet for each of them, twelve springs with twelve different colors:

This is the Secret of the diversity of the appearances in the Universe through the letter Ha’ of the Ism.
The letter Ha’ of the Ism al Jalala (Allah) which is visible through this ephemeral universe, from the understanding of the colors.

The Divine wisdom wanted to preserve the harmony of this universe with the good perception of the creation inside the mankind.
In this way, If we look for the origin of each color, we find that all the colors come from those twelve colors. Likewise, all the Knowledges of this Universe find origin in the twelve letters of tawheed.
And in the book of Allah, the colors offer deep meanings and play a key role in the Koranic expression, both figuratively and literally.

Allah ﷻ says: “Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby fruits of varying colors? And in the mountains are tracts, white and red of varying shades and [some] extremely back.”
[surah fatir / verse 27].

O Mureed, you are like the inert and parched soil which contains everything inside and nothing on the surface. But when the water of the divine spiritual flow is sent down, the soil trembles and buds germinates from it. Then increase the knowledges, and each knowledge is matched with a color.

The sincere Mureed who truly desires the face of Allah is like the soil whose water coming from a beneficial rain that would be the Shaykh. When the water is sent down on the mureed soil, it gives the twelve colors of the Muraqqa’a.

Abu Musa (radi allah Anhu) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The similitude of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like a rain which has fallen on some ground. A fertile part of earth has absorbed water and brought forth much grass and herbs. Another part, which is solid, held the water and Allah benefits men thereby, who drank and gave others to drink, and used it for irrigation. But some of it has fallen on a portion of sandy land which neither retains the water nor produces herbage. Such is the likeness of the man who understands the religion of Allah and who gets benefit of what Allah has sent me with; he learns and teaches others. It is also the likeness of the man who neither raises his head on that account (meaning he does not benefit from what the Prophet ﷺ was sent with) nor accepts Allah’s Guidance with which I am sent”
[Sahih Bukhari, Kitab al ‘ilm, n°78].

In this sense, sidi abu Maydan al Ghawth (qadassa Allah sirruh) said in one of his poems:

By you, the soil on which you were sent down relives
as if you were a beneficial rain

The colors have a visible symbolic in the Koran. The color can refer to Power, to Mercy or to Divine Beauty. It can symbolize Life or Death, Kufr or faith, guidance or amorality; but this knowledge can only be known by the visual manifestations of this color through Muchahada (vision), allowing to discover its deep reality (Haqiqa) and its hidden meanings. This is why for exemple the Prophet ﷺ assimilated the vision of milk to Knowledge.

The diversity of colors and their mixing allows the appearance of new colors which are beautiful, which rejoice the eyes, which touch the heart and which intoxicate the souls. In this way, Allah ﷻ matched the diversity of colors with dhikr and meditation:  “and of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge.” [surah Rum / verse 22].

So Diversity is one of the signs of Allah and He even made it a reminder for those of Knowledge.
Have you ever observed the composition and form of the rose. Have you ever meditated on the arrangement of its colors. Have you buried yourself in its deep meanings? Have you ever liked its beauty? Allah ﷻ says: “And when the heaven is split open and becomes like the rose.”
[surah Arrahman /verse 37].

See How Allah compares the opening of the heavens to the opening of the rose when it hatchs!

And there is no more beautiful words than the words of our Lord. The diversity of colors in a Koranic reality. We shall meditate on the harmony between mankind and the Universe.

  • Allah created the fruits with different colors: Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby fruits of varying colors?”
    [surah fatir / verse 27].
  • He also created animal helds with different colors: And among people and moving creatures and grazing livestock are various colors similarly.”
    [surah fatir/verse 28].
  • He made the drink which emerges from the bellies of bees with different colors: “There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people.”
    [surah nahl / verse 69].

Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ compares the believer with the bee when He said: “the believer is like a bee which eats that which is good and and lays that which is good”
[sahih ibn Hibban, hadith n°250].

Why would we not let gush forth from our inner the spiritual realities of varied secrets, which mean of varied colors. Why would we not wear those colors visibly by all?

Allah created and embellished the all universe with varied colors in order to make the life more enjoyable and in order to make the sakina easier to find. Then, He gathered and put it inside you. The purpose of your seeking is the knowledge of yourself and not the knowledge of the universe.

In this sens, those verses have been written :

And you think your an insignificant point
while all the vastness of the world have been folded in you

so wearing a colored Muraqqa’a means wearing what the Lords of the Universe put inside the hidden inner of his Khalif on earth. It is a Message of Love for all creatures, because in our zawiya, our minhaj is the Minhaj of Love and our Madhab is the Madhab of Love.

Wherever it leads you, choose the religion of Love
Love is my religion and my faith
